Life Itself (2014)

'Life Itself' is a prime example of how to properly tribute an individual in a documentary film. I've always been aware of Roger Ebert's history, but never have I seen this much personal material on him. You get nothing less than the honest truth. All of his good and bad traits are shown without filter. We see him grow and mature in his career and as a person. It's all insightful and meaningful. However, the real intimacy comes from the filming of his final days. The words exchanged feel so beautiful, so poignant, so real, that you'd swear this was candid camera. That's the beauty of Ebert. He wanted to show exactly how it is, and he got his wish.
