Protector 2 ( Tom yum goong 2 )

'Protect' Yourself from This Bad Sequel

Tony Jaa is a superior martial arts entertainer. All of his films thus far have utilized his unique fighting style to it's full potential, showcasing the performer's awesome physicality without the any aid. 'The Protector' is his best film to date. 'The Protector 2', on the other hand, is his worst. This sequel breaks every rule set beforehand. Maybe 35% of all stunt work here is unfiltered. There are so many shots of obvious green screen, wire-work, and bad CG. I could maybe swallow some of this if the fighting was still cool, but the choreography is lame. Jaa's signature Muy Thai is misused. What's worse is that most of his famous moves from past films are re-done multiple times. We've already seen everything here done better. What's the point? The story and characters are so damn silly, yet there still exists a non-silly approach to the execution. So many bad action movie cliches show up to comic effect. It is possible to enjoy some parts for their badness. That's about all the positive I can give to this wholly underwhelming sequel.
