First Born

You mightn't want to watch this if you're pregnant

A New York City based dancer Laura (Elizabeth Shue) finds out she is pregnant. Her husband, a wealthy businessman Steven (Steve Mackintos) moves them out to a big spacious but isolated house in the suburbs to raise their child. After the child Jessica is born, he continues to leave her alone during the days with her newborn baby and a series of strange occurrences conspire to test her abilities as a new mother.

Things take a turn for the worse when Steven hires Mrs. Kasperian (Kathleen Chalfant) to help Laura with the housework and the baby, but Laura believes the old woman wishes to harm Jessica using witchcraft and becomes increasingly frightened. This movie hooked me in from the very beginning and had me watching up until the very end. An upsetting journey into one woman's descent into postpartum psychosis!

Sad…the doctor really should have paid more attention to his patient but then we would not have had First Born the movie. Elizabeth Shue was terrific. She was very convincing and made the movie completely believable. Worth a watch…the ladies especially might like this one.
