Best buds FDR (Chris Pine) and Tuck (Tom Hardy) are two CIA operatives who are great at what they do. After their latest assignment gets more publicity than they bargained for their boss (an underused Angela Bassett) takes them off the field and assigns them to office duties only. With time to spare, the idle two decide to boost up their love life.

Tuck is a divorced father of one who's really looking to find someone special again while FDR is a confident ladies’ man content to cruise the local video store searching for his latest conquest. The more reserved Tuck decides to take his chances with online dating website hoping he can meet a nice girl. Enter Lauren (Reese Witherspoon), an attractive, independent woman who appears to have everything except a love life. When Lauren encounters her former fiancé engaged to another woman, she vents her frustration to her best friend Trish (Chelsea Handler) who decides to take matters into her own hands and, unbeknownst to Lauren, produces an online dating profile for Lauren which matches her with Tuck. When Lauren sees Tuck's picture she decides to give it a try. The date goes amazingly well, but later Lauren runs into FDR at the video club; he is there to provide backup in case Lauren turns out to be a psycho or worse because that is what best friends do, watch each other’s backs. FDR makes a move on her (without realizing that she is the girl Tuck is dating) but the two mix like oil and water. Undeterred, FDR decides to pursue Lauren.

Once FDR and Tuck realize they're dating the same woman they decide to compete for her without letting her know they know each other. They make a gentleman's agreement to let the lady decide who to date. What makes this movie most enjoyable is how both parties are so determined to get the girl they will go to all lengths including using the CIA resources at their disposal to sabotage the other’s efforts. As if this wasn't complicated enough, an international criminal named Heinrich (Til Schweiger of Inglourious Basterds) is on their trail seeking revenge for the death of his brother.

It’s fast paced funny and the dynamic duo of British Tom Hardy and athletic Chris Pine share chemistry and camaraderie together. Chelsea Handler is tossed in as Witherspoon's wisecracking married friend, who doles out trashy dating advice. There is also a nice scene in a video store where Reese discusses some Alfred Hitchcock films which resonated quite nicely for me as I am contemplating watching the very same movies she mentioned. This means War has plenty of romance for the women (watching Pine bat those baby-blues was no hardship for me), lots of action for the men, and humor for both. What would have made this movie even more drool worthy was having the virile Tom Hardy shed his shirt so I could get a glimpse of his tats. I heard that this patriotic citizen even has the Union Jack flag inked on his upper left chest. Now there’s a good man lol.

Some quotes taken from the movie:

“Damn! I think this is the new British Invasion…..what just happened there!”

“Don’t choose the better guy…choose the guy that is going to make you the better girl”

Did you know that “FTFO is text lingo for freakin’ the f^ck out?”….”I sh^t you not”
