I've been a big fan of the re-invention of Battlestar Galactica; the first half of series 3 was compulsive viewing. Razor returns to an earlier point in the plotline and introduces an interesting new character, and has the fantastic effects, thrilling space battles and moral grey areas that marked the series when it was at it's best. Highlights include Aliens style gun battles and a great scene in which Adama in his youth comes across cylon experiments on humans that is reminiscent of the lab scene in alien resurrection, hinting at a turn toward a more gothic horror style feel. It does have moments of gung ho flag waving, but this is to be expected from a one-off story in an American series, and it does make an interesting (albeit borderline homophobic?) point in the shape of Adama's "there but for the grace of God" speech. Add some interesting tasters for a possible new spin off set in the times of the original series, complete with appearances by the far cooler old school cylons and I'm actually looking forward to the new season again!
