An enigmatic assassin is double-crossed by his client and finds himself the target of the Russian secret police, Interpol and his own secret organisation. Hitman is yet another in a long line of the new generation of conspiracy action thrillers; in others words it is exactly the same as The Bourne Identity. Baldy Bourne efficiently ploughs through the appropriate mix of assassinations and well orchestrated bloodbaths and as long as there's arterial spray on the screen, it's serviceable enough. The inevitable and inevitably unwise decision to add a romantic interest not only undermines the origins of the character but also adds by far the weakest aspect of the film, although I for one am not going to complain about seeing a lot of Olga Kurylenko (all of her in fact...) As a whole it's a decent undemanding action thriller that's probably the best videogame adaptation I've yet seen. But let's face it, that isn't saying much.
