Japanese Nomadland, with almost double the runtime and infinitely duller cinematography. Consumes itself with ill-justified stoicism from virtually every character as they explain the plots of more interesting stories in monotones.

There's a great two-hour film somewhere inside the almost three-hour "Drive My Car," a moving but much too long journey through grief and disconnection.

This is the best film I’ve seen since Roma a few years back. To get the best out of it, see it at least twice. The last half-hour is incredibly moving: the trip to Hokkaido and the final scene of Uncle Vanya with the Korean sign-language.
