Mary Elizabeth Winstead has the steely resolve and chops to be an action lead. She looks at ease brandishing firearms and kicking ass. The plot for KATE is pretty much the same as the film noir classic D.O.A. but set in the Japanese underworld of yakuza and hitmen. It's a colorful noirish backdrop. The actress playing her teenage sidekick is a bit annoying though. Woody Harrelson plays MEW's frenemy and he's not bad but he doesn't have much to do.
