I was surprised by how much better it was than I was expecting, but Zemeckis' retelling of the Roald Dahl story (and remake of the Nicolas Roeg original) feels mechanical and not as whimsical as it should.

In order to review this movie, I must channel my inner Joe Pesci for film criticism: *Me to this movie* "What the fuck is this piece of shit?" *Looks at the director* “Robert Zemeckis? What a goofy looking fuck he is”.

The film appears to be marketed specifically as Roald Dahl's The Witches, which I presume is largely because the people who made this film wanted to shift all the blame onto a dead person. Incidentally, congratulations to Anne Hathaway for winning the worst accent of the year competition, a close race with Kenneth Branagh's Tenet Russian accent in the mix, with her Scottish Transylvanian growl.
