"Lies are not freedom". GORKY PARK is a taut and twisty mystery thriller set against the backdrop of the decaying Soviet Union in its final years. William Hurt is excellent as the noble policeman trying to solve a triple homicide and thwart sleazy bureaucrats and political corruption. The clash of intricate police work against chaotic Soviet politics is a fascinating set-up that keeps the viewer engaged.
