New Movies to Crave: The Devil is in the Details

In what is usually a slow time of the year for new releases, there is only one new wide release coming out and I have a feeling that we're up for a repeat three weeks running.

1) That's because The Devil Inside looks to bring nothing new to the table. A mix of Fallen, The Last Exorcism and pretty much any other "possession" film of the last five years, unless you're really desperate for a horror film, I wouldn't even bother. The fact it wasn't screened for critics is just another sign about how great I'm sure this cliched-riddled exorcism film is going to be. I, for one, think I'll finally get around to seeing M:I - Ghost Protocol, which should win the weekend again.

Next week at least had the wide-release premiere of The Iron Lady - in which Meryl Streep will likely get an Oscar nomination for her take on Margaret Thatcher, even if the film itself seems to be getting mixed reception. You also have Mark Wahlberg in Contraband and Dolly Parton vs. Queen Latifah in Joyful Noise. Yes dueling choirs and Mark Wahlberg in another generic action film... 2012 is getting off to a riveting start.
