New Movies to Crave: Reboots Abound as TRON and Yogi Arrive

I'm not the biggest fan of rebooting an old franchise. With very few exceptions, it's almost never as good as the original and just goes to sour those cherished memories. However, since I only saw the original Tron a couple months ago and don't have those rose-colored glasses to look through, I can say that I'm looking forward to the next film.

1) TRON: Legacy is probably going to be a little too slick and polished to appease hard-core fans of the original, but they still brought back Jeff Bridges and it can't nearly be as cheesy as the original (yes I went there). In fact, this is the first film in a long time I'm actually excited about to watch in 3D. I may be in the minority, even amongst my friends, but I think this film will be a lot of fun.

2) On the other hand, Yogi Bear looks to be pure torture to my eyes. Now, Hanna-Barbera may have played second fiddle to Warner Bros. and Disney, but not even their creations deserve this. I don't care who the voice talent is, this shouldn't happen, to good or bad cartoons. I dread to think how The Smurfs are going to end up.

3) Trying once again to break the streak of poor-performing romantic comedies is How Do You Know. James L. Brooks is mostly known for The Simpsons but seems to choose his movies carefully. The last time he teamed with Jack Nicholson he ended up with As Good As It Gets. Lets hope this one turns out just as well.

4) In limited release is Rabbit Hole, which has a good chance of earning Nicole Kidman some more award recognition. This is heavy on the drama for sure but looks a bit depressing for my personal tastes - plus I have little love for Kidman. I can still wish her the best of luck, however.

That's it - we'll see if updated graphics can help either of the reboots and if a romantic comedy can crack to the top five. Stay tuned!
