New DVD and Blu-Ray Releases to Crave: Despicable A-Team and The Other Guys Run The Town

It looks like the big guns are coming out now that Christmas is just about upon us once again. In fact, there are so many big hits this week, I just have to expand my list.

1) The best pick for me this week is Despicable Me. In fact, I already have it in my possession, that's how much I like this movie. It's fun, it's funny and those minions steal the show. I can't say this was better than Toy Story 3, but for my money, it was just as enjoyable.

2) If you enjoy gritty drama and crime, don't discount Ben Affleck. The Town is just proof that the man can still act and the directing isn't bad either. Cheerful? Maybe not, but surely worth a watch.

3) Sticking with action, you can also count on The A-Team. This is pure action all the way - guns, explosions - all the fun stuff that makes for a great time waster. I wouldn't buy this one, but I think it's a solid rental on a slow day.

4) On the comedic side, Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg teams up as The Other Guys. I'm not convinced this is any better than any other buddy cop spoof movie, but I'm willing to at least give it a shot. Just like A-Team, a good rental on a day when you need a little laugh.

5) Here's a one-two punch for families: a bunch of owls and a wicked good nanny save the day. Nanny McPhee Returns and Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'hoole may not be as well known or well loved, but when it comes to keeping the kids happy, you can be rest assured these will do the trick.

6) Don't overlook these other films that may be under the radar either. The dark comedy Cyrus takes Oedipal complex to a whole new level with disturbingly funny results. On the other hand the French film Micmacs is a madcap adventure from Jean-Pierre Jeunet, who also directed Amelie.

In the Blu-Ray department the best bet is the original True Grit, no doubt coming out now to capitalize on the soon-to-be released Coen Brothers remake. Still, it's a good idea to watch the original so you have some kind of barometer to judge the new film by.

It's a full week for sure, but there are plenty more movies coming out. For a full list on all the new releases visit the FilmCrave New DVD Releases and the FilmCrave New Blu-Ray Releases pages today.
