FROM THE BIG SCREEN:
"Rampage": Another cheesy popcorn flick from the 21st century inheritor of the Stallone-Schwarzeneggerr mantle. Primatologist Davis Okoye (Dwayne Johnson), a man who keeps people at a distance, shares an unshakable bond with George, the extraordinarily intelligent, silverback gorilla who has been in his care since birth. But a rogue genetic experiment gone awry mutates this gentle ape into a
raging creature of enormous size. To make matters worse, it's soon discovered there are other similarly altered animals. As these newly created alpha predators tear across North America, destroying everything in their path, Okoye teams with a discredited genetic engineer to secure an antidote, fighting his way through an ever-changing battlefield, not only to halt a global catastrophe but to save the fearsome creature that was once his friend. Rampage is silly and cartoonish and the perfect, brainless summer movie. From Warner.
"Isle of Dogs": In this stop-motion-animated film from writer-director Wes Anderson, an outbreak of canine flu in Japan leads all dogs to be quarantined on an island. A boy (voice of Koyu Rankin) journeys there to rescue his dog Spots (Liev Schreiber), and gets help from a pack of misfit canines who have also been exiled. His quest inspires a group of dog lovers to expose a government conspiracy. The voice cast also includes Bryan Cranston, Edward Norton, Bill Murray, Scarlett Johansson, Tilda Swinton, Bob Balaban, Greta Gerwig, and Yoko Ono. A gorgeous-looking, droll story -- but really only for Anderson fans. From Fox.
Also due this week: "Super Troopers 2", a sequel to the original "Super Troopers" movie by the Broken Lizard team. When a border dispute arises between the U.S. and Canada, the Super Troopers are tasked with establishing a new Highway Patrol station in the disputed area. From Fox ... "I Feel Pretty
," starring Amy Schumer as a woman who struggles with feelings of deep insecurity and low self-esteem -- that hold her back everyday -- and who wakes from a brutal fall in an exercise class believing she is suddenly a supermodel. From Universal ... and "Blumhouse's Truth or Dare
," a typical horror-thriller in which a harmless game of "Truth or Dare" among friends turns deadly when someone -- or something -- begins to punish those who tell a lie -- or refuse the dare. In an unrated director's cut from Universal.

affair with the same woman (Sung Hyunah). The friends decide to meet the girl one more time and see what happens. "Tale of Cinema" uses the trope of a film within a film to tell two stories, that of a depressive young man (Lee Kiwoo) who forms a suicide pact with a friend (Uhm Jiwon); and the tale of a filmmaker (Kim Sangkyung) who sees a film that he believes was based on his life, and who meets the actress from the film with a view to turning their onscreen relationship into reality. With these critically acclaimed films, presented here in high definition for the first time with a wealth of extras, Hong Sangsoo employs his idiosyncratic, measured style to create two compelling and truthful tapestries of human emotion and behavior.
