The Equalizer 2 and More in This Week's MPAA Ratings Bulletin

While the Ratings Board certainly didn't dial down the quantity of movies receiving their ratings this week, the quality front is another matter. Most films fall under the limited range this time around, leaving the only major film to talk about being the sequel to Denzel Washington's reinvented anti-hero Equalizer. I guess that's okay, though, I'm more interested in seeing some bombs bursting in air today anyway - maybe the board is too.

I admit that I have yet to see the updated Equalizer yet. I have wanted, it just hasn't been available through any of my streaming options. By all accounts, the 2014 is grim and violent and more than earns its R rating as Washington plays a man trying to put his past behind him and live a normal, quiet life but finds himself putting his talents to good use when he witnesses a young woman (Chloë Grace Moretz) being terrorized by the Russian mob. Lots of violence ensues. The Equalizer manages to squeeze out just over $100 million domestic - and just over $90 overseas. That is apparently enough to greenlight the sequel - The Equalizer 2. Details are surprisingly scarce for a film coming out by the end of the month, but the plot revolves around the murder of Susan Plummer (Melissa Leo - returning to her role) and Robert McCall's (Washington) quest for justice, in his own brutal style. Bill Pullman is also returning as Brian Plummer while Antoine Fuqua returns as director. Other faces joining the film include Pedro Pascal, Jonathan Scarfe, Sakina Jaffrey, Orson Bean and Ashton Sanders. No surprise here: rated R for brutal violence throughout, language, and some drug content.

That's all - one big film and a bunch of smaller ones to follow in the full MPAA Ratings Bulletin below:
