New DVD Releases to Crave This Week: Killers, a Solitary Man and MacGruber Walk Into a Bar...

Once again, I'm forced to admit that I am most displeased with the lack of quality DVD releases. Still, I tend to focus mainly on zombies, sci-fi or assorted violence, but I digress. Someone is probably happy these are coming out on DVD, here they are:

1) If you're looking for Mr. and Mrs. Smith, lite, then the Ashton Kutcher / Katherine Heigl film Killers should fit the bill. Something tells me the chemistry won't be as good and neither will the story or action. I guess you could do worse for a romantic / action film, but then again, you can do much better as well.

2) Proving once again that turning a 5-minute sketch into a feature length film is never a good idea (or rarely so) comes MacGruber. I'm sure there are a few chuckles to find within, but I'm also better they are too few and much too far between to make it worth the while. Still, I bet I will end up watching this at some point and regretting it (just like Zohan).

3) If you want something with a bit more meat on its bones, check out the Michael Douglas vehicle Solitary Man. I guess it's never too late to have a midlife crisis or find your life in ruins. Not the happiest sort of film, but one Douglas can certainly handle.

For those on more inclined to the Blu-Ray releases, we have a grab bag: everything from the underrated Mars Attacks! to the seriously trippy (but excellent rock opera) The Who's Tommy. For sci-fi fans like me, the pre-Star Wars George Lucas film THX 1138 may be the best release, even if not the most popular.
