New DVD Releases to Crave This Week: Big Dog, Tyler Perry and a Guy Named Harry

Much like the weekend box office underwhelmed, I can't say this weeks DVDs are looking any better for me. I won't knock your taste, but as far as I'm concerned, this week just doesn't do it for me.

1) Anything with a vigilante vibe is always a good choice, and hopefully Harry Brown can deliver. Michael Caine is ex-agent on a mission and like Gran Torino, you should know not to mess with your elders. It may not be wholly original, but when you're out for revenge, sometimes it doesn't matter.

2) If I can't get vengeance, why not a little serial killer action? The entire Red Riding Trilogy is being released. Following the same story though different decades is a great concept, throw in a hunt for a serial killer and you might have a winner. Devoting the time may require effort, however.

3) I never understood why Tyler Perry is so popular, but then I'm obviously not the target demographic. Anyway, Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married Too? is the newest release of the Perry empire. If you've enjoyed his films in the past, I'm sure this one will be fine for you.

4) If you need something to shut the kids up for awhile, nothing's better than a big, slobbery mutt to keep them entertained. Enter Marmaduke. It wasn't a hit at the box office by any stretch, but for keeping the kids quiet for an hour or so? It should do the trick nicely.

I'm actually much happier with the blu-ray releases, even if the only major release is for the limited edition of The Evil Dead. Any fan of horror knows that this is an important entry into the medium. I mean, Bruce Campbell and Sam Raimi? You can't go wrong!
