Zum Geburtstag von Ryan O'Neil! - Peter Bogdanovichs Film über die grosse Depression wirkt wie ein Tribut an das Filmschaffen dieser Zeit. Wir erleben die Geschichte von Addie, eines kleinen Mädchens. Addie sieht die Welt genauso wie sie ist und das ist wohl der Grund, weshalb sie fast nie lächelt (obwohl sie sich aber auch nicht unterkriegen lässt!). Paper Moon beginnt am Grab ihrer Mutter, deren Interessen ganz bestimmt nicht der Tochter galten. Von einem Fotografen erfahren wir, dass Addies Mutter von der übelsten Sorte war. I don't really understand what happened to Peter Bogdanovich. In the span of three years, he directed The Last Picture Show, What's Up, Doc?, and Paper Moon. And then . . . I don't know, maybe his ascot is tied too tight. But I digress. This movie is such a delight. Tatum O'Neal gives one of the finest performances by a child you'll ever see, no doubt aided by the comfortability of acting with her father--she has every child's innate sense of manipulation, but she puts it to somewhat more profitable use than most. Madeline Kahn, as usual, is priceless as Trixie Delight, the shrill trollop that Ryan O'Neal picks up for her, er, assets. And Ryan himself, usually not the most reliable of actors, is wonderful as the Bible-selling con artist who may or may not be Tatum's father. The …

An amazing film that everyone should see

Tatum O'Neal steals the show with an excellent performance as Addy, an orphaned child who begins a road journey with a con man who is played with Oscar winning status by Ryan O'Neal. They play against each other well, being father and daughter in real life, and create some truly memorable scenes together including an excellent scene where Ryan O'Neal's character argues with the young girl Addy in a restaurant over money. It's a scene that manages to linger and proves the incredible filmmaking ability of Peter Bogdonavich who drives this film with incredible directing. The film is presented in a noir motif with 1930's visual and even a black and white presentation to further imrove the authenticity of the time period.
