This latest installment in the Jack Ryan film universe is surprisingly violent at times. Which I'll take if the story was any good. But instead it is a very generic spy thriller. Jamie Bell has some good moments as a morally gray CIA operative. Michael B. Jordan is not bad though his character switches from patriot to vigilante on a dime. I know it's tempting to give Jodie Turner-Smith some slack because she faced harassment from online trolls. But she still is not very good in this. She has a flat wooden delivery. Going back to the violence, I commend it for not watering it down. But the story could had been far better.

Don't let the title fool. This is hardly "Tom Clancy's" work. In updating the source material, Amazon strips away the heart and soul of the original story: a tale of the prices paid by Vietnam veterans abandoned by their country. "Without Remorse" simply uses its title as a jumping point for a militarized, "John Wick" knock off.
