Wieder bietet er eine platonische Liebesgeschichte, die um die Idee angelegt ist, eine Schallplatte an verschiedenen belebten Orten in New York aufzunehmen. Mit seinen unvergleichlich sympathischen Schauspielern ist ihm der diesjährige Summer-In-The-City Wohlfühl Hit gelungen! Eine Frage am Rande aber sei erlaubt: Weshalb müssen Filme über Musiker immer so schlimme Musik enthalten? "Begin Again" is a modern fairy tale in which individuals are about to make a new start in their life and (coincidentally) begin again : the start of a new career, a new relationship, a new image or simply a new personal life. The amount of films with people who are on the brink of disaster, in a desperate situation and then by a twist of fate take control again, are legion. It's the same in this with music filled feel-good movie. Only the chosen princess in this tale I personally think isn't such a success. Not a bad word about the acting skills of Keira Knightley, but the moment she starts laughing, I feel shivers going down my spine. And she laughs a lot in this film. 'Begin Again' has a premise that could've easily turned into a fluffy predictable story. Thankfully, the outcome is the opposite. Many scenes bypass instances for usual cliches. There is much more emotional involvement with the characters, most of which comes out in the music. The movie captures the essence of songwriting. The situations that inspire the songs within the film come from an honest place. Those songs also happen to be terrific! The two main characters (played by Ruffalo and Knightley) have a wonderful shared creative experience. This brings them both out of their current ruts in life and reinvigorates them towards happiness. It left me with a warmhearted feeling of ease and a want for upbeat musical fun.
