If you want to learn a little bit of history about Afganistan and how if it weren't for thier country communism might have won the cold war, see this movie. It was a really good movie/ story and of course there was great acting by Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts.

You'd have to try really hard to screw up a movie that stars Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts, and Phillip Seymour Hoffman, directed by Mike Nichols, and written by Aaron Sorkin. Fortunately, the movie succeeds on all levels. Hanks is Charlie Wilson, who in the 1980s played a significant war in the covert war against the Soviet Union in their attacks on Afghanistan. Roberts is the Houston socialite who pushes him toward this, and Hoffman is the CIA man who can get it all done. All play off each other well and do well with their roles, but it's Hanks who stands tall above the rest. I took it down a half star for what I wondered was a statement on current politics in the final scene. Regardless, it's a strong film that shouldn't be missed.
