Culture clash ensues when a Frenchman joins a Polynesian tribe after falling in love with the chief’s daughter. It tries to be more thoughtful than the usual ‘South Seas’ romance. But it doesn’t always balance out the lighter elements with a more cynical side that emerges in the second half.
