Despite the plot sounding like an exploitation movie, this gritty prison drama is actually less sensationalistic than expected. Eleanor Parker is pretty good as the protagonist toughened up by her new surroundings. And she receives help from a solid cast, chief among them is Hope Emerson as the brutish prison matron.
