Swing Time review

John "Lucky" Garnett (Fred Astaire) is a dancer who gambles and is about to get married. He meets Penny (Ginger Rogers) and goes with a friend namely "Pop" Cardetti (Victor Moore) to earn money. There were shades of comedy coupled with one of the best choreography and music. However, the leads background and premise were dull and the ending obviously dated. Not to spoil anything, but how can one easilly cancel a marriage due to a torn pants. Top Hat had a better plot mixed with enticing song and dance numbers. In here, the acting and story fell flat only to be covered by the fantastic song and dance numbers which were more entertaining than the premise. It even had that racist feel ala All That Jazz with Lucky using make-up to look black. If only the script were better then Swing Time would have a lasting impact. To each his own.
