Moulin Rouge review

"Love that will live forever." A romantic well crafted musical which revolves around a young English poet/writer, Christian (Ewan MacGregor), and a sick star of the Moulin Rouge, cabaret actress and courtesan Satine (Nicole Kidman). Satine mistakes Christian for the Duke (Richard Roxburgh) which brings out the films slight humor. Henri Toulouse-Lautrec (John Leguizamo) has a pivotal role in informing Christian about the truth. The songs used and revived here were either hysterical or beautiful depending on the tempo. The sets were impressive together with the wardrobe. Its original score was really from Romeo and Juliet and the rest of the songs just inserted to make the list more interesting. In this reviewers view, the leads didn't have enough time to fall in love. Everything felt rushed. Having Christian killed was also a bit of a stretch. Overall, Moulin Rouge is well developed from a viewers point of view but lacks the depth to make it believable or touching for the romantic aspect.
