Entertaining, funny, and stunning. A stranger arrives to Lago, a town with a mysterious secret, gets a lot of stares. The Stranger is then attacked by three notorious men while being shaved. He was asked by the Sheriff to help the town since The settings, cinematography and action sequences were splendid. If only the screenplay were improved to make the supporting characters more interesting, same goes for the unnamed hero. It's score was hypnotic which aids in the surrealism of the way it was shot. The trio of main antagonists could have had more history, same goes for The Stranger. The Stranger's best lines: "It's what people know about themselves inside that makes 'em afraid." "You're going to look pretty silly with that knife sticking out of your ass." and "Then you live with it.". A revenge western with touches of comedy in terms of gesture/dialogue, as mentioned in the production notes of the DVD, one of the best westerns in the 70's. High Plains Drifters is a well crafted western that exhibits conscience, retribution and vengeance.
