I Love You Philip Morris review

There was a time when Jim Carrey was just a comedian. With films such as Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Truman Show and this, it proves that he is a versatile actor. A true to life story of the creative gay Steven Jay Russell (Jim Carrey), married to Debbie (Leslie Mann). He moves to Miami and meets a guy, who eventually becomes his boyfriend. Steven meets another guy in prison, namely Phillip Morris (Ewan McGregor). The performances from McGregor and Carrey were sincere, especially from the lead. Soundtrack was well picked though though the structure of the story could have been more clarity, rather than going back and forth. Humor was decent but nothing laugh out loud. Overall, I Love You Philip Morris is a watchable comedy drama about lies, love and being true to ones identity. Carrey should be given meatier roles such as this.
