The Invention of Lying

The Invention of Lying review

Mark Bellison (Ricky Gervais) becomes unemployed and gets evicted by his landlord. He falls for a wealthy attractive girl Anna McDoogles (Jennifer Garner), who then gets engaged with a good looking Brad Kessler (Rob Lowe). The love of Mark and Anna just wasn't authentic for me, to the point of ruining a wedding in church. So many dragging scenes coupled with a realistic approach of how Mark and Anna end up together. The Invention of Lying didn't appeal to me because of its execution, lack of natural humor despite its popular cast and the idea of using a lie to become rich and famous. it makes you ponder after watching this picture, does it mean that the first man to lie was even rewarded? Despite Brad's rudeness Anna still agrees to marry him? Just because of a single lie Mark gets worldwide recognition? A bit ludicrous and distasteful for a comedy. I guess this film isn't for everybody and if its screenplay was tweaked, it could have been better. Or perhaps use the cameo's and inject more roles instead.
