Multiple Story Lines

When Nashville came out, people really weren't used to multiple story lines all moving along and intertwining here and there, like almost every TV drama nowadays. People still aren't accustomed to multiple story lines that seem a bit loose, almost random, full of Altman's usual interruptions and overlapping dialogue. But it's not about the plot; it only occasionally seems to be about the music. It's an attempt to show the range of personalities in the world of country and western music at the time, and it's a nice and uneven ride.
