They Shoot Horses tells of a dance marathon during the depression that pains a dark but interesting portrait of very very downtrodden people. It paints its character well through this story line and the film is almost uniformly well acted. My only real problem with the film comes with the use of flashbacks throughout the film as well as its ending which does not work nearly as well as the film wishes for it to do so.
