Thir13en Ghosts was an old favorite of mine. I loved the idea for the story long before I ever really knew what a good movie was, and I thought the movie was the best I've ever seen. Now I'm a little more experienced, but I still have a special place in my heart for this picture.
The story for Thir13en Ghosts is rather original, even though the movie is a remake. I love how the ghosts in the film actually have stories instead of just being the bland "ghost made of a sheet" kind. Each ghost has their own personality and past, which makes the idea for Thir13en Ghosts even better than I thought it was going to be. Although I've never seen the original 13 Ghosts, I always found the fondness of seeing things differently through glasses, because I've always had glasses, and I see things differently than people around me. It was taking an aspect of my life and putting a horror spin on it.
Although the movie was given a horror genre, and I mentioned that the movie did have a horror spin, I would consider Thir13en Ghosts more of a thriller film. There's nothing in the movie that really made me jump, which really helped me watch the whole movie instead of hiding under a sheet for part of it. I think that's the best kind of thrillers with a mix of horror. Thir13en Ghosts really caught the genre for me.
The characters and the acting are pretty good. I did like the way that Matthew Lillard, Tony Shalhoud, and Shannon Elizabeth acted through the movie, and they brought out their characters very well. However, the movie kind of lacks in the interaction part of characters. Plus, some of the characters don't really develop when the movie gives them time to. That's kind of a shame really.
Overall, Thir13en Ghosts is a great thriller film with a twist of horror. This movie is more for thriller fans that horror fans, but I still think that the movie is still good.
