Nim's Island

Wasting Leonidas and Agent Starling

Nim's Island is a pathetic excuse for an adventure flick which fails in so many levels due to poor acting.
The story mainly focuses on how Nim tries to survive on deserted island all by herself when her father got accidentally lost at sea. She's then accompanied in her quest by creatures that are almost magical and most likely unrealistic. Meanwhile two other stories happen simultaneously, on the other side of the world there's Jodie Foster seeking to find the right words to put on the adventure book she's trying to finish. On the other hand Gerard Butler is now drifting in an ocean of unparallel horizon on a sinking boat and a sense of urgency to get back to his daughter all alone on an island in the middle of nowhere. The movie falls short mainly because the story was too shallow and close to nonsense. The characters are uninteresting, even the almighty Leonidas was turned into a pigment of the imagination and just drifts to the other side of one's subconscious. Jodie Foster’s award winning acting skills is not even put into to good used and just wasted her high end talent. Although Abigail Breslin did all the hard work literally, I got to give her props for just adding a little sense of worth to her performance. After all was said and done I was still looking for that incredible sense of adventure and sadly this did not even scratch my expectations. Overall Nim’s Island is almost unworthy of a review like this. It almost feels like a complete waste of time, talented actors and what could have been a good idea for a story.
