Underworld: Rise of the Lycans

The Wolves have come to feast

The epic battle between Werewolves and Vampires are brought to life yet once again in this supposed prequel to the Underworld movies. First of all I really thought we had seen enough Underworld movies when Evolution came out. But then here we are again with the sequels or rather prequel I mean. Then to my surprise after seeing it I said to myself, that wasn’t so bad. And when things aren’t that bad it simply means they’re good or half good for that matter. The first Underworld featured a more ground breaking CG palette with Len Wiseman putting his vision to film. Now with a different director and a different take on the visuals it seemed that this prequel only used a mere average CG effects instead of the more advance one. But even though the visual spectacles were weak the characters make up for loss eye candy with their intense performances. Lucian played well by Michael Sheen was really the heart and soul of this film. Rhona Mitra has her shining moments and it’s pretty shocking what she end up becoming. The story was kept simple and played out in a well driven pace. I was also uniquely astounded with the action scenes, I’m really not sure why. The Werewolves and they’re transformation from human to wolf and back were nicely done. Overall it wasn’t what I expected (which was to really really suck) and I’m really glad that it didn’t. In my honest opinion The Rise of the Lycans did succeed in a howling fashion.
