Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City

A Valiant Effort

A pretty competent film version of RE 1, 2 and even parts of Code Veronica and Umbrella Chronicles. I loved the set designs for Spencer Mansion and the police station as well. The only thing holding this back from being a great adaptation? A low budget and woeful casting. Kaya Scodelario is the best as a feisty Claire Redfield but aside form that the casting is either bland (Robbie Amell, Tom Hopper and Neal McDonough) or has weird traits like Hannah John-Kamen's Jill Valentine being a gun nut or Avan Jogia's Leon Kennedy being one step removed from a Keystone Cop. If Johannes Roberts has been given a bigger budget, perhaps we could have got more than a bad CGI zombie dog and Licker (and don't get me started on the final boss Birkin monstrosity). As it stands, this was much better than I was actually expecting but could have been so much more.
