The Bucket List

Review - The Bucket List (2007)

When Edward Cole (Jack Nicholson) and Carter Chambers (Morgan Freeman) found out they were going to die within the year, they decided to make the best of it. They come up with a list of things they want to do before they die and go for it in “The Bucket List.”

Being the first pairing of these two acting giants, Nicholson and Freeman hit it off rather well, making a perfect old man team. They play off of each other really well, even if they are playing the same characters they always do. And guess what, Freeman narrates again! I guess he enjoys it or he wouldn’t let himself get typecast like that.

The story is cute, and it plays out well, but the whole time I was watching it I felt like there was something missing. It just seemed like the movie didn’t go that extra mile for emotion or comedy or something. As much as I did enjoy it, it seemed hollow for some reason. Still, it’s definitely worth checking out.

“The Bucket List” may not be either actor’s best film, but it works for what it is. I’m surprised it wasn’t nominated for an Oscars this year though, considering the star power.
