The Quiet Man

My favorite John Wayne movie!!!

Not only is this film a wonderful display of cinematography and acting clout, it also brings to the screen a great story--what movie-making is all about. John Ford wasn't concerned with demographics, box office sales, or action figure revenues. He just wanted to tell some really good stories. And The Quiet Man does just that. With the on-screen chemistry between Wayne and O'Hara, the farcical comedy of Barry Fitzgerald and the breathtaking landscape on which they are filmed, Ford (who received an Oscar for Best Director for this project) draws you into his world of hard-work, good times and tremendous passion. Ireland has seldom been captured in such a beautiful or accurate way since and (seeing as it was the first American film to be shot in Ireland) displays a world that few have been privvy to see before.
