This one surprised me. I had heard stuff about this film for years, but once I actually started to watch it, I wasn't really getting anything out of it. By the hour mark, I thought by the the time it was finished I was going to ultimately find the movie to be a passive 2000s slasher-movie, although nicely-shot, and and it had some interesting play on the cliches, it was nothing that I was completely interested in. However, those last heart-pounding, mind-bending, 20 minutes; the section of the film that makes it so the movie deserves its title of "High Tension", was what made the movie unique and unforgettable.

The use of gore is definitely a huge factor in the film, although the terror has almost nothing to do with that aspect, in fact that film could have worked just as well for me, as long as it kept the same amount of suspense and that...ending that I truly didn't see coming (in fact I didn't even know there was going to be a twist!).

Check it out, I for one enjoyed it, and although ten or fifteen minutes could have been cut from this already brief 90 minute movie, everything starting from the confrontation between the main-protagonist and antagonist and onward totally makes the movie worth it. Really takes the cliches of the victims, killer, and especially the female-protagonist found in slasher films and spins them all on their heads.

C+
