Imitation of Life (1934)

The first of 2 classic adaptations of "Imitation of Life." In the early 30s, audiences had yet to see a film that paired two actresses of different races the way this film did. While it certainly undercuts the darker side of prejudice at the time with traditional Depression-era romanticism, the superbly loving friendship between Colbert and Beavers still wins viewers hearts and tears.
