Jean-Pierre Jeunet brings over a portion of the cast from his film The City of Lost Children, and they are much more welcoming than the prior cast of the third installment! Weaver delivers another inspired performance of great range, which reminds us of why she is the queen of badasses.

The plot and story however get far too mixed up in the theme of Frankenstein- presenting a new form of the alien species that is asexual. It's this odd blend of fairy-tale horror motifs that just don't blend well at all, in addition to a few casting questions, that almost tank the project. Winona Ryder as a robot is beyond camp quality bad. Overall, an upgrade from the third, but still lacking the ingenuity of the first two.
