Alien 3 attempts to expand the monstrosity of the species by making it a metaphor for the aids virus and it fails badly. It continues the timeline of the first two movies by essentially forcing the viewer to accept that all the effort of the escape and survival in Aliens was for nothing. Weaver does deliver her typical heartfelt and poignant character of Ripley, which is the lone bright spot amongst Fincher's enormous directorial blunders and seemingly indifference to the importance of the franchise.
