The Order (2003)

The Order has no Order at all!

With movies such as "The Da Vinci Code" and the upcoming "Angels and Demons" all exploring religious mythology, The Order should have a captive audience. What a shame then that it fails to deliver.
The story is confusing and some what ludicrous with many of the side questions left unanswered. The cast have no passion with a poor performance from Shannyn Sossamon. Maybe it is not entirely her fault as her character is obviously one with a past which is gradually revealed throughout the movie. Her past is completely irrelevant and leaves the audience wondering whether we really care or not. Sossamon just doesn't show the acting skills required to play such a complex character in such a poorly written script.
Other members of the cast have average performances with Heath Ledger falling way below the expected standard he has produced previously. Mark Addy attempts to bring some humor, and has some witty lines but his fake Irish accent lets him down. An example of the confusion in the movie shows Addy's character as an Irish priest, but he is shown as being in Paris when we first meet him, why? What is the significance of this?
The Order really isn't worth the effort, just wait for "Angels and Demons", a film that will no doubt satisfy.
