Roland's New Try

Director Roland Emmerich, this time moved away from apocalyptic action movies and focused on a drama/mystery movie...

Anonymous is a movie set up in the Elisabethian Age in England. It is about Shakespeare or rather Edward DeVere, who according to this story, wrote the famous plays like "Juliet" or "Henry \/"

With a good start and a interesting idea the movie went down into a revolutionary action movie.
It is just Roland Emmerich who directs. If the director would have been Steven Spielberg or Robert Zemeckis or someone els this would have been one of the greatest movies of 2011. But the script still has some empty spaces which Roland Emmerich filled up with an unrealistic love story between Queen Elizabeth and the Earl of Oxford. Moreover this whole subplot gets lost.

So, the movie had good costumes, good cinematography and good art direction, but it lacks on neither being a thriller nor being a drama.
