Where the Wild Things Are

Let the wild rumpus start!!!

Quite possibly my favorite book as a kid. As most of you know who read my reviews I am a staunch supporter of "true" adaptations of novels into movies. In fact, I don't even mind having Max runaway instead of being sent to bed to imagine his adventure. I understand the impossibility of taking a children's book with roughly 10 sentances and turning it into a feature length film. And for that I applaud Spike Jonze for crafting a good film. But something seemed off. Max annoyed me. And even though the cinematography was beautiful as were the "wild things" themselves, they monsters seemed flat. They were just there to be there, but other than Gandolfini's character I felt no real attachment to them. In closing, it's a good adapatation of a classic book, but especially for adults, it's only ok. Please let your child see this film with real emotion and maybe they'll learn something from it. And, we adults won't have to suffer through anymore crappy talking animal crap.
