Husk

Weak Plot, But Still Surprisingly Good
PandaMonium - wrote on 10/30/12

The vast majority of After Dark movies are very weak, but HUSK was certainly one of the better ones, mainly thanks to its refreshingly original premise. The plot, admittedly, was lacking where the villain's origin was concerned and seemed to be a little confused at times, but it's a minor gripe in the face of a delightfully creepy story vaguely reminiscent of the 1988 film SCARECROWS. Tension was built very well in a number of scenes (particularly anything with the sewing machine), the sets were passably atmospheric and the scarecrows were frankly pretty scary (and thankfully not so susceptible to fire, which kept me from yelling at every character to "just throw a match at it, you stupid idiot," as I normally find myself doing with evil scarecrow movies.) HUSK is no masterpiece, but it is a surprisingly competent After Dark shocker that's fun to waste away a couple of hours with. 3/4.
