The Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires

The Hammer Dracula legend comes to an end

You can't blame Hammer for trying to reinvent the Dracula wheel over the course of its 20-year lifespan. Three times ago, they brought him current ("Dracula A.D. 1972"). Two times ago, they made him a corporate spy. And this time, they made him a... samurai?!?

The thing is, it's not as wacky as it sounds. And that may be the problem. Aside from some swashbuckling action among seven brothers and their corresponding vampire foes, its really just another Dracula-Van Helsing showdown at the end.

It seems that some thought was put into making it fit into some form of continuity. But I wonder if it would have been more fun if they just let loose and threw caution to the wind?

It's certainly the bloodiest Dracula movie that Hammer made. However, it mostly comes from the action sequences, not the bloodsucking ones.

But it's certainly not awful. It just plays more like a curiosity than a cult favorite.
