This had the chance to be a great update to a classic 80's movie but fell short. They put together a decent cast and I actually enjoyed most of the changes to the main character. Two big problems, it's rated PG-13 and the ending. Michael Keaton was never a believable bad guy. No fault on the actor, the script did a poor job of moving him from CEO wanting to improve the world to crazy business guy trying to cover his ass. The special effects were good, but the loss of some of the cheese from the original made it feel like a very generic action flick at times.
They tried to play up the political angle in this one saying that the rest of the world was better off due to the US using drones for security and America was in disarray because they were not. Yet Detroit looks like a clean, well to do city the entire movie. Where was the future dystopia from the first? Overall, not a bad movie but not a great movie either. Hopefully the franchise will stop here.
