A collection of heavily armed strangers find themselves in a remote jungle wilderness and stalked by an unseen assailant. Predators is so similar to the 1987 original it can almost be seen as a remake. It has the same jungle location, the same situations, even many of the same plot devices; the two things it is missing however, are Arnie in his prime and a sense of humour, which is something of a problem seeing as they were the very elements that made Predator work. The amusing banter between the group of friends from the original film not only provided laughs but also made you care what happened to them; quite why we are supposed to have empathy for what is essentially just a collection of assholes with big guns I have no idea. I would also have to say that although I am a fan of Adrien Brody, he's always been something of an intellectual hero and seeing him hiss macho platitudes through clenched teeth is a little hard to swallow. Things get a little more interesting when Laurence Fishburne makes an appearance but it's little more than a cameo and we're soon straight back to mindless violence. It's a shame because the idea behind Predator has a lot of potential but even after FIVE movies featuring them, we still know little more about them than they like hunting things. It's noisy and flashy enough to stave of boredom but not only is Predators not as good as the original, it's not even as good as the AVP films.
