Ridley Scott’s first attempt at a post apocalyptic movie like Mad Max, and man does he deliver. Technical credits are all brilliant, and there are three excellent action set pieces that are intense and extremely violent. What makes the movie superb, however, is that it takes its time developing characters that you actually care about, which is greatly helped by two terrific lead performances from Jacob Elordi and the always bad ass Josh Brolin. It’s 88 year old Ridley Scott, however, who does the heavy lifting with his sweeping world building shots and intense direction in what is easily the best post apocalyptic movie ever, and one of the year’s best movies as well.
