Conan the Barbarian (1982)

A Classic Sword And Sorcery Epic
Norrin - wrote on 09/04/13

Long before "Game Of Thrones" and its R-Rated fantasy trappings came "Conan The Barbarian" - still an all time classic sword and sorcery movie. Arnold Schwarzenegger is perfect in the title roll and will forever be Conan. The supporting cast, led by a scene stealing performance by James Earl Jones is also first rate. The screenplay by John Millius and none other than Oliver Stone is filled with great memorable lines. The violence and nudity are just right for this sort of thing. Also of note is the truly magnificent musical score. On the negative side, the special effects are outdated and just don't hold up anymore. Other then that, this is still one of Arnold's best movies and also one of the best fantasy movies ever made. Finally, it contains the single greatest religious debate ever filmed when Conan argues with Subutai about how his god, the almighty CROM is greater than Subutai's god, THE FOUR WINDS. A must see for fantasy fans.
