Top DVDs to Crave This Week: Bounties, Weddings and Going Green (berg)

I have to admit, this while there are plenty of semi-popular movies coming out to DVD - none of them are admittedly up my alley. That's not to say someone won't appreciate them, but all these fall into the category of "background movies" namely, something that happens to be playing while I''m doing something else (like, say, writing a blog).

So be it: here are my top picks for the week anyhow.

1) The top pick goes to The Bounty Hunter. It looks okay - I like Gerard Butler and it looks like he has decent chemistry with Jennifer Aniston. An interesting premise at least, but I can only think of this as another average romantic comedy-type movie.

2) A spin on the whole Fatal Attraction story, Chloe. I'm interested in this only to see if Amanda Seyfried can pull off a more cunning role. I'm Sure Liam Neeson and Julianne Moore will also be pretty good. Plus you get commentary, a making of and deleted scenes so at least the extra features are a bonus as well.

3) I'm not usually one for "character study" movies, but Greenberg might be worth it just to see Ben Stiller in a more serious role. Still, he's pretty much an unlikable guy in a morose film. I think I can hold out on this one.

4) Finally there is Our Family Wedding. For the right target audience, I'm sure this wedding comedy would be better suited. I'm not that target audience. The cast does look promising, however, so if the mood strikes you I'm sure it could be a fine movie, just not for my taste.

Two decent films also make it to Blue-Ray - probably because of Inception, the Christopher Nolan film Insomnia. For all of Nolan's good intentions, I still think the original Norwegian thriller is the better of the two, but just like in One Hour Photo, Robin Williams plays a scary guy. Still a good bet if you like stylish thrillers.

Then there is In Bruges. Although I said I wasn't a big fan of character films, this one is better because the characters are interesting: hit men. A mix of comedy/crime/drama - it's interesting - a kind of Irish "Pulp Fiction" - and memorable.

That's it - one week in which new releases are upstaged by better Blu-Rays.
